Kenya's Healthcare Gap Is a Matter of Life and Death

Kenya faces one of the most acute specialist healthcare shortages in sub-Saharan Africa. For millions of Kenyans — particularly the 70% living in rural areas — a diagnosis of cancer, heart disease, or a neurological condition is effectively a death sentence, not because treatment is impossible, but because it is unreachable.

Non-communicable diseases now account for 39% of all annual deaths in Kenya — and cancer alone claims over 33,000 Kenyan lives every year. The cruel irony is that 60–80% of these conditions are treatable with specialist intervention. The barrier is not medicine. It is access.

Our Story

How DSO Kenya Began

DSO Kenya — Doctor's Second Opinion Platform — was founded on a single urgent observation: that Kenyans with complex, life-threatening illnesses were dying not because cures did not exist, but because they had no way to reach a specialist who could offer them.

Registered as a Community Based Organization under Kenyan law, DSO Kenya is based in Nyeri with operational reach across all 47 counties. Our core model is built around a strategic partnership with AeroMedicare — a specialised medical value travel company and division of AeroTech India.
